Itinerary
Day 1
- Fly to Newfoundland: Fly to Deer Lake on the west side of the province, and travel a short distance to Corner Brook. Set at the mouth of the Bay of Islands, the city is 40 km inland from the open waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The landscape of the region is rugged and the scenery is spectacular. Tonight enjoy a musical Newfoundland welcome.

Day 2 - Cowhead, NL: Tour the Corner Brook area before heading into the wilds of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Parks Canada protects the area to promote understanding of the significant geological features in Gros Morne, and to protect the natural beauty and wildlife habitat. Visit the village of Rocky Harbour, then enjoy the park from the water on a boat trip where the traveller can truly appreciate the wildlife, and the informative commentary given by the boat captain. Travel on to the settlement of Cow Head for the night. After dinner this evening, enjoy a performance by Theatre Newfoundland Labrador, a talented theatre group who sing, act, and entertain in sharing their history and culture with visitors.

Day 3 - Plum Point, NL: Enjoy a leisurely paced start to the day, or, if you are able, join us for a short hike along Old Winter Mail trail, for a view of the 4-km length sandy beach at Shallow Bay (an easy, flat hike under 2 km). Journey north along the Great Northern Peninsula with photo stops along the way as our route takes us close to the water's edge. Visit 'The Arches' and Port au Choix along the way.

Day 4 - Plum Point, NL: Travel to the tip of the Peninsula to the town of St. Anthony, home base to Sir Wilfred Grenfell's medical mission. Visit the first-known and the only authenticated Viking site in North America at L'Anse aux Meadows where Leif Eiriksson led his explorers. The reconstruction of three Norse buildings are the focal point of this archaeological site, the earliest known European settlement in the New World.

Day 5 - Grand Falls, NL: Travel out of Gros Morne and through the heart of the province to Grand Falls, a city founded as the site of the world's largest paper mill. Visit the Salmonid Interpretation Centre, on the banks of the Exploits River and watch the migrating salmon from the observation window.

Day 6 - Port Blandford, NL: Continuing eastward, venture off the Trans Canada Highway to tour through picturesque coastal villages like Twillingate, for a view of the ocean, perhaps an iceberg, and yet another lighthouse. Learn about the Beothuk people who thrived here 300 years ago, and have since become extinct. Travel to Terra Nova Provincial Park in Port Blandford. Stay: Terra Nova Golf Resort

Day 7 - Day-trip to Bonavista, NL: Enjoy the resort facilities at the hotel in Terra Nova Provincial Park. A day-trip to the quaint town of Bonavista includes time to walk around the renowned lighthouse, along the pathways where the strong ocean waters pound the rocky coastline. Learn about the history of the cod fisheries in Newfoundland, and the way of life for these resilient people at the historic Ryan Premises.

Day 8 - St. John's, NL: Travel into Newfoundland's Avalon Region. This afternoon enjoy a city tour of St. John's. Enjoy a free evening to explore on your own.

Day 9 - St. John's, NL: Today enjoy a catamaran cruise out of Bay Bulls provides many photo opportunities en route to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to 500,000 Atlantic Puffins and the largest humpback whale population in North America. Enjoy an evening of Newfoundland entertainment and gather for a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers.
