Barrington Woolen Mill Museum

The
Barrington Woolen Mill was a thriving local business back in the late
1800s. Powered by a water turbine, the mill washed, picked, carded,
spun, dyed and wove the wool. See demonstrations of hand-spinning,
dyeing, processing, and weaving of wool. A superb woven mural on
exhibit includes the first piece of Nova Scotia tartan.

A 43.5-m (143-ft) schooner
built in
1963 at Lunenburg, Bluenose II is Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador; a
replica of the original Bluenose (1921-1946) depicted on the Canadian
dime. The ship sails out of Lunenburg, Halifax, and other ports. Call

inshore fisheries. Get the scoop on scallops and lobster lore; launch a
model schooner; visit the new Millennium Aquarium. Banks schooner
Theresa E. Connor at wharfside. Talk with “old salts” that fished the
North Atlantic. Visit the boat shop or spend a bit of time hooking a
mat or quilting, in the Life in Fishing Communities exhibit. The Museum
theatre shows films throughout the day. The Bluenose exhibit contains
the world’s largest collection of Bluenose artifacts.

Discover and experience
Acadian
history and culture in a 140-year-old dwelling house transformed into a
museum. Since its official opening in 1979, the museum has acquired an
impressive selection of artifacts that depict how life would have been
for our ancestors at an earlier time. The museum's new wing boasts a
fine display of cameras, photographs and associated paraphernalia.
There are over 300 cameras spanning one hundred years of photographic
history, including a very rare gas operated upright enlarger, circa
1895. Discover a Traditional Acadian Garden with trees and flowers, as
well as an herb and vegetable garden, like that tended by the first
Acadians. In addition to household items, there are documents and
literature dating back to the 1700’s, which are of great interest to
the genealogist and historian.

its famous lighthouse and picturesque fishing village. William E.
DeGarthe carved this “lasting monument to Nova Scotian fishermen” on
the 30-m (100-ft) face of a granite outcropping behind his house. Enjoy
a lobster meal overlooking the surf and lighthouse.

Points Reef, where we visit the seals and a variety of seabirds. 2 hour
adventure with a brief tour of Lunenburg Harbor and then proceed to the
fishing grounds for the hauling of the lobster traps. Along the way
you'll be learning about lobsters and lobster fishing from the
professional crew.

gallery located on the banks of the beautiful LaHave river, occupies
the historic family General Store. The gallery displays well known
colorful porcelain ware - the "blueberry" pattern is most popular among
the fruit and floral designs and the SMOKEDWARE is wonderfully rich and
unique to the studio. Paintings of Nova Scotia's seacoast, lakeshores
and streams emerge from Don's studio. Learn the pottery process through
in store displays. Children receive a complimentary YOUNG POTTERS
packet of clay.
